About the Event

Dr. Tareq Abu Hamed, a Palestinian chemist who is now the Director of the world famous Arava Institute for Environmental Studies in the Negev, will join the filmmaker of the powerfully moving documentary The Optimists in a heartfelt conversation about his belief that there is an alternative path to peace. Several years ago, he and his family left the East Jerusalem village in which they lived and relocated to Kibbutz Ketura in the southern Arava, in order to work at the Institute. The Arava Institute was founded 20 years ago on the kibbutz in order to advance cross-border environmental cooperation by bringing together Israelis, Palestinians, Jordanians and others in an academic program which teaches that “nature knows no borders”. The question they will discuss is whether the power of optimism is stronger than what is broadcast on the evening news.

The conversation will take place on Thursday, January 27 at 7:30 PM PST and is included with IJWC's Year-Round Subscription pass. If you don't have this pass, please register here to attend the program.

Admission is free.  A donation of $5 is requested. Upon registration, you will first receive a confirmation email. An hour before the program begins, we will email the Zoom link you need to join the event. If you don't see these emails, please check your spam/junk folder to retrieve them. We suggest you add "notifications@wixevents.com" to your contacts list as well.

Sponsored by IJWC in partnership with CCJCC, Cong. Beth Emek, Cong. B'nai Shalom, and Cong. B'nai Tikvah.
