We are delighted to bring you Nora's Will, a Mexican film, in November. Although shown at the Century Theater many years ago, the film deserves a repeat viewing. Set among Mexico City's Jewish community, this comedy focuses on the complications involved with organizing a memorial while others are preoccupied with Passover. Also complicating matters are one of the character's status as a nonbeliever and the unexpected contents of Nora's will.
The film will be available to watch starting on Thursday, November 4 and will continue through Monday, November 9.
On Thursday, November 6 at 7 PM, Fred Rosenbaum will discuss this captivating family comedy as a reflection of the deep, often unbridgeable, divisions within Mexican Jewry, and that Jewish community’s unique relationship to its host society. But in navigating a life cycle event among different cultures and belief systems, Nora’s Will speaks to us as much as to Mexicans.
Donors of $1,000 or more to the Film Festival in 2023-2024 will automatically get both the film screening and the Rosenbaum talk for free.
Admission: $10 per household. You will receive the link for the film viewing before November 10. You will receive the Zoom link for the talk before November 14. You will receive a reminder a few minutes before the film begins streaming on Eventive. We will also send another reminder email with the Zoom link to join Fred Rosenbaum's lecture an hour before it begins, from "IJWC Year-round Events." If you don't see these emails, please check your spam/junk folder to retrieve them. We suggest adding "noreply@eventive.org" to your contacts as well.
