With his single mother Tamara working at night and sleeping during the day, 12 year-old Pinhas has already assumed the responsibilities of an adult. Now, he wants to study for his Bar Mitzvah and turns to his religious neighbor, Shimon Amazaleg, for tutoring. The two form a strong father-son bond, and soon Tamara falls in love with the unmarried orthodox man. But things get complicated when Shimon’s rabbi pressures him to marry a woman from their own community.
