There is a Yiddish expression: "You can't control the wind, but you can adjust the sails."
We need you now to join us on the journey.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many non-profit organizations to rethink how they can continue to support their community during these extraordinary times, while at the same time remaining true to their mission.
With the generous support of our many festival-fans, we believe that we have done this.
Even though social-distancing necessitated our streaming films and hosting speakers online, we reached over 4,000 households since April 2020 who have signed up for our programming.
Our innovative “Around the World with Fred” series was so popular that we will be continuing to bring Fred’s insights to the community through the summer of 2021.
We are delighted that other non-profits have looked to us for partnering opportunities and programming.
Our films and speakers continue to shine a light on important issues, such as film censorship, antisemitism and racism.
Through our film screenings, our viewers have seen the world—from Argentina in 1992 to contemporary Tel Aviv; from WWII Czechoslovakia to America in the 1960s.
In support of greater community access to entertainment and education during the pandemic, our Board has decided to present our events from November through the end of March for free. Ticket prices for our Virtual EBIJFF in April will be lower than they would have been during ordinary times.
Doing all the above is only possible because of the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporate sponsors. If you have already donated to the Festival and its year-round programming, THANK YOU! If you have not already sent in a contribution, please consider doing so. Although we are not renting a theatre at this time, there are still hidden costs associated with virtual events, such as the costs of downloading films for each viewer and the cost of our films and speakers.
Should you have questions or would like to underwrite a film, please contact Riva Gambert, EBIJFF Director, at 925.895.3605 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. For your records, IJWC (Independent Jewish World Cinema) is EBIJFF's parent non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and its federal tax ID number is 36-4821405.
Thank you for building community with us through the power of film.
