WELCOME

Welcome to our 17^th year of bringing international and independent film to our East Bay community. For 2012, our motto — See a Film, See the World — is even more meaningful as our cinematic line-up includes movies from as far away as South Africa (The Wrong Side of the Bus) and as close as…Oakland (Music Man Murray). Other selections hail from France, England, Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland and Israel.

We’re also delighted to feature several films about music and composers, including Le Concert (Opening Night, March 10, 7:00 PM), Who Do You Love? (Monday, March 12, 7:30 PM), Mahler on the Couch (March 14, 4:00 PM), Wagner and Me (March 15, 11:30 AM), and the Israeli musical Mary Lou (March 11, 7:15 PM). As an added bonus, we’re opening the screening of Mary Lou with a mini-concert by the local band The Vibers, who will introduce us to the sounds of the legendary Israeli pop singer and composer Svika Pick. Pick’s songs serve as an important backdrop to the film.

Going forward, our Festival will be doing more and more in-between-festivals programming. Please join us on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 PM at The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life, 2121 Allston Way in Berkeley, for the screening of Adam Resurrected. This powerful drama stars Jeff Goldblum, Ayelet Zurer and Derek Jacobi, and is based on a novel by the celebrated author Yoram Kaniuk. Kaniuk will join us for the screening and participate in a Q&A session afterwards. For more information, email riva@jfed.org.

On another note… With the closure of the Contra Costa JCC in December 2011, our weekday, morning films on March 12, 13, 14 and 15 will now be screened at the CineArts in Pleasant Hill. On behalf of the Film Festival Committee, we want to thank the staff and leadership of the Contra Costa JCC for the warm hospitality they showed us over the years.
