About the Festival

Founded in 1996 as the Contra Costa International Jewish Film Festival, we will celebrate our 15th anniversary this year with a new name and expanded screenings. We are proud that our Festival is the largest Jewish cultural event in the Contra Costa/Tri-Valley region of the Bay Area!

While enjoying popcorn and a movie is a good thing, one of our major goals is to educate, engage and to encourage dialogue. Our feature films, shorts and documentaries reflect the dynamism and diversity of peoples around the world. Through our films, we also explore the richness of Jewish identity and history. Film is a medium which helps us promote pluralism and construct cultural bridges between our area’s diverse religious and ethnic groups.

Our films resonate for our audience due to their broad appeal and the social issues that are explored. Our festival also serves as a “meeting ground” for cultural life. Through the window of film, we learn to appreciate different lifestyles, try to shatter stereotypes and lower barriers. Hopefully, those attending our screenings will gain a greater respect for different cultures and beliefs.

As our “motto” says: SEE A FILM, SEE THE WORLD.
